The Commission recently published the results of its ‘Study on the welfare of dogs and cats involved in commercial practices’, which found a number of areas of concern that could place at risk the welfare of dogs and cats, as well as public health and consumer protection in the EU.
What steps will the Commission take to address the serious issues uncovered in the study?
A: Mr Andriukaitis on behalf of the Commission (2016-06-21)
The Commission is considering the possibility of establishing an EU platform on animal welfare in 2017. Within this framework the Commission plans to take into consideration if further commitments or specific action plans are needed with due regard to the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality.
